Required Skills & Competencies

Technical Skills

  • Strong knowledge of SMT equipment and PCB assembly processes.

Qualifications

  • Diploma / B.E. / B.Tech in Electronics, Electrical, Industrial Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field.
  • 5–10+ years of experience in SMT & PCB assembly; at least 2–3 years in a supervisory role.
  • Knowledge of IPC standards (IPC-A-610, J-STD-001) preferred

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

A. SMT Line Management

  • Oversee end-to-end SMT process:
    • Solder paste printing
    • SPI inspection
    • Pick & place operations (Yamaha/Juki/ASM/Hanwha etc.)
    • Reflow soldering
    • AOI inspection
    • X-ray (for BGA/QFN components)
  • Ensure proper setup, program loading, feeder arrangement, and recipe management.
  • Verify product quality through process parameters (paste volume, placement accuracy, reflow curve).

B. PCB Assembly & Manual Soldering

  • Oversee THT (through-hole) assembly, hand soldering, wave solder, and conformal coating processes.
  • Ensure IPC standards (IPC-A-610, J-STD-001) are followed.
  • Monitor soldering defects and drive reduction activities.

C. New Product Introduction (NPI)

  • Coordinate with R&D/PE for new product builds.
  • Validate PCB design for manufacturability (DFM) including panelization, fiducials, stencil design, thermal balancing.
  • Prepare process documents: WI, SOP, PFMEA, Control Plan, Process Flow.

D. Quality Control & Process Improvement

  • Track and improve key KPIs:
    • FPY (First Pass Yield)
    • Placement accuracy
    • Reflow solder quality
    • Defect PPM (DPMO)
    • SMT line OEE
  • Drive root cause analysis for defects: tombstoning, solder bridges, BGA voids, insufficient solder, misalignment.
  • Lead Lean/Kaizen projects (cycle time reduction, waste elimination).

E. Machine Maintenance & Uptime

  • Ensure preventive and predictive maintenance of SMT machines, reflow ovens, printers, and AOI equipment.
  • Troubleshoot equipment breakdowns and reduce downtime.
  • Validate new machines, feeders, nozzles, and tooling.

F. Material Management

  • Ensure correct handling of SMD components (moisture control, MSL, vacuum storage).
  • Monitor feeder loading accuracy and reduce material loss/mixing.
  • Track consumables (solder paste, stencil life, flux, cleaning solvents).

G. Team & Shift Management

  • Manage line leaders, operators, technicians, and inspectors.
  • Plan manpower for multiple SMT lines and shifts.
  • Regular training on ESD, IPC standards, and process compliance.

H. Reporting & Documentation

  • Maintain production logs, defect reports, OEE reports, shift handover notes.
  • Ensure traceability of PCB lot numbers, machine logs, and reflow profiles.
  • Support internal/external audits (ISO 9001, IATF, ESD audits).
