The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Brandworks Technologies Pvt. Ltd., marking a major step toward advancing India’s capabilities in rechargeable battery technology (RBT). This collaboration highlights Brandworks’ growing leadership in electronics manufacturing and aligns with the nation’s mission to become a global hub for high-tech, sustainable production.
The partnership focuses on developing next-generation lithium-ion batteries, a crucial component in consumer electronics, electric vehicles, renewable energy systems, and data centers. By leveraging Brandworks’ in-house R&D, DFMA (Design for Manufacture and Assembly) expertise, and agile manufacturing methodologies, the initiative aims to create cost-effective, high-performance batteries tailored for both domestic and international markets.
This collaboration supports the Government of India’s Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat programs, strengthening self-reliance in critical energy technologies.
Under the agreement, Brandworks Technologies and MeitY will jointly:
Advance R&D in Lithium-Ion Technology: Develop batteries with higher energy density, faster charging, and longer lifespan using scalable DFMA-driven designs.
Localize Supply Chains: Reduce dependence on imports through domestic supplier partnerships.
Adopt Sustainable Manufacturing: Implement eco-friendly production practices to minimize carbon emissions.
Promote Skill Development: Train over 500 technicians in advanced battery assembly, agile production, and quality control by 2030.
Building on its success in power bank manufacturing, Brandworks brings deep expertise in compact, efficient lithium-ion solutions. With a strong foundation in automation, product design, and R&D, the company is well positioned to lead India’s next phase of clean energy innovation.
Founded in 2017, Brandworks has evolved from a power bank assembly unit into one of India’s leading electronics manufacturing service providers. Operating out of a 210,000 sq. ft. facility in Mumbai, the company runs 45 production lines, including 2 SMT lines, and delivers over 500,000 units monthly.
Its diverse portfolio includes soundbars, Bluetooth speakers, wearables, IoT-enabled devices, and mobile accessories, serving over 40 leading Indian brands. Brandworks integrates SAP and Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) for real-time production traceability and efficiency, while its DFMA-driven design approach helps reduce material waste and production costs by up to 20%.
The company’s proprietary supply chain management tool cuts sourcing time by 30%, and collaborations with 50+ Independent Design Houses (IDHs) enable customized, cost-optimized solutions at the Bill of Materials (BOM) level.
With a workforce of over 1,200 people, 70% of whom are women, Brandworks champions diversity and inclusivity across all levels of operation. The company’s commitment to skill development and global manufacturing standards (ISO, RoHS) ensures sustainable growth and long-term impact on India’s electronics ecosystem.
Ms. Nikita Kumawat, Managing Director of Brandworks, stated,
“This partnership with MeitY reflects our continuous commitment to innovation. By integrating DFMA and agile manufacturing, we aim to make lithium-ion technology both sustainable and globally competitive.”
Mr. Ishwar Kumhar, CEO of Brandworks, added,
